Set off on a thrilling 10-day / 9-night journey to the Garhwal Himalaya on the Khatling Glacier & Mayali Pass Trek. We leave the holy city of Haridwar and climb all the way to the snowy Mayali Pass at 5,300 m.
After a scenic drive to Ghuttu, the trail winds through the old village of Gangi, the flower-filled Kalyani Meadow, and the clear blue lake of Masartal before the big push over the pass. Along the way you’ll see the giant peaks of Thalay Sagar, Bhagirathi, and Chaukhamba, then drop down to the sacred Kedarnath Temple.
With steady acclimatisation, expert guides, and warm Garhwali hospitality, this moderate-to-tough trek blends raw wilderness, high-altitude excitement, and spiritual charm; perfect for adventurers ready to test themselves and make memories that last.
We pick you up from Har-ki-Pauri or the railway station while the city is still half-asleep and glide north before traffic begins.
Forty-five minutes later we pause in Rishikesh for steaming masala chai, a quick restroom break.
Riding toward New Tehri, we stop for a hearty breakfast, all while the Tehri Dam and its emerald reservoir fill the scene.
A simple vegetarian lunch awaits in Ghansali bazaar.
By late afternoon we reach Ghuttu, settle into a cosy stay, and take some rest.
At night, we gather for a briefing over a tasty warm dinner, then call it an early night so tomorrow’s climb feels easier.
Start the day with an amazing breakfast to power us up for a day that swaps wheels for boots.
Then we will load the jeeps and roll towards the Bhilangna valley.
Eventually we arrive at Gangi. It is the last village.
The trail will begin easy. As the forest path passes through deodar and maple trees.
We pause in a sunny clearing for trail snacks and clicking .
Our final push is to Kalyani. The stone steps give way to open pasture dotted with wildflowers and grazing mules. The air feels cooler, cleaner, thinner.
Then we will pitch and settle into camp.
Explore a nearby ridge for sunset or just sit riverside, feet in icy water, while the valley turns into a beautiful scenery.
Hot dinner will be served at night. Our SkyHike guide will brief tomorrow’s uphill trek, then it’s stargazing and zip into warm bags.
After an early campsite breakfast, we shoulder packs and ease into a steady climb through oak- and rhododendron forest.
A mid-morning pause in a sunny clearing lets us enjoy snacks, refill bottles, and take rest before the final push.
By early afternoon the trees give way to Kharsoli’s wide grass meadow, where the Bhilangna meets a glacial side stream and peaks frame the horizon.
Tents go up beside the water; lunch follows while our gear dries in the sun.
The evening is free to stretch, soak tired feet in the river, or photograph the meadow’s shifting light.
Dinner is served at night and rest well for tomorrow.
We leave Kharsoli after an early breakfast and follow the Bhilangna upstream on a gradually rising path.
Around midday we pause on a flat rock for a packed lunch with our first clear view of the Khatling Glacier snout.
A steady climb brings us to the open meadow of Chowki by mid-afternoon.
At 3800 m Chowki offers a level campsite beside the river and sweeping views of ice-clad peaks.
We set up tents, enjoy hot dinner, and watch the light fade over the glacier before turning in for the night.
Morning rest at camp to hydrate, eat well, and let the body adjust to the thinner air.
Then in the afternoon, we will do a quick gear check, then a short out-and-back hike toward the Khatling Glacier for active acclimatisation.
A quick afternoon briefing on Mayali Pass hazards and techniques will be done. Your remaining time is free for stretching and recovery.
We will spend our second night in tents at Chowki to lock in altitude gains before tomorrow’s push.
After breakfast we break camp at Chowki and start a steady trek to Masartal.
The trail passes through long long stretches, eventually gaining height through glaciers.
By early afternoon we reach a rocky ridge and Masartal’s clear, turquoise lake appears below.
A careful descent trek brings us to the lakeshore where we pitch tents on a small flat meadow.
The remaining daylight is for rest, hydration, and quiet lake-side views.
We spend the night having dinner and enjoying ourselves in tents beside the still waters of Masartal.
We break camp before dawn and begin a snow-covered climb toward Mayali Pass.
The final push gains the highest point of the trek, where we pause briefly for breath and photos.
A long descent on mixed snow, ice, and loose scree then drops us into the upper Vasuki valley.
By late afternoon we reach Vasuki Tal ( 4 978 m) and set up camp beside the still, sacred lake.
Evening is for recovery, hot dinner, and early rest in preparation for the exit toward Kedarnath.
After a quick lakeside breakfast we start descending toward Kedarnath.
The treks drop steadily on a rocky, well-marked path into the Mandakini valley.
By midday we enter Kedarnath and check into a simple guesthouse.
Freshen up, then walk to the Kedarnath Temple for darshan and prayer.
Evening is free to rest, take prasad, and reflect on the journey so far.
We set off early from Kedarnath and follow the pilgrim path 14 km downhill to Gaurikund, reaching by early afternoon.
After a quick lunch break, our tempo traveller takes us the remaining few kilometres to Sonprayag.
We check into a comfortable stay, freshen up, and enjoy dinner before tomorrow’s journey.
After breakfast we depart Sonprayag and follow the Mandakini River down to its confluence at Rudraprayag.
The highway then traces the Alaknanda–Ganga corridor past Devprayag, offering final views of the river’s green waters.
By evening we roll into Haridwar and drop you at Har-ki-Pauri or the railway station.
Trek ends here and it’s time for farewells and a headful of Mayali Pass memories.
We will love to make these memories with you. See you soon!

Weather Planning:
Mayali Pass lies in Uttarakhand’s Garhwal Himalaya. Expect cool, clear days and cold nights from mid-May to October, with afternoon showers likely during the monsoon burst (late June–August). Post-monsoon (September–October) offers the steadiest skies.
High-Altitude Readiness:
The trek tops out at 5,300 m; mild AMS symptoms are common. Build in acclimatisation days (as at Chowki) and hydrate well. Consider carrying Diamox after consulting a doctor.
Fitness & Trail Demands:
Daily walks range 5–14 km on moraine, scree, and snow. Steady cardio training plus leg-strength work for at least a month beforehand makes the long pass day far easier.
SkyHike delivers curated mountain journeys with expert local leaders, streamlined safety systems, and on-trip support from start to summit. Every experience is designed for comfort, confidence, and unforgettable Himalayan memories.
