Package Highlights

Traill’s Pass Trekking Expedition is one of the most challenging high-altitude expeditions in the Kumaon Himalayas. The trek connects the breathtaking Pindari Valley with the remote Johar Valley and reaches an elevation of 5,312 meters, making it suitable only for seasoned trekkers with strong fitness and prior high-altitude experience. The original document clearly mentions that this trek is designed for experienced trekkers and demands endurance, skill and mental resilience.

The route carries deep historical importance as Traill’s Pass was first crossed in 1930 by Sir William Traill, the British Commissioner of Kumaon, along with Malak Singh Ji from Supi Village. It was once an important trade route connecting the Pindari and Milam Valleys. The journey begins from Khati Village, the last inhabited village in Pindari Valley, and the best time for the expedition is May to June and September to October.

This expedition includes remote camps, glacier sections, load ferry days, high-altitude camps, technical terrain, steep icy slopes and a demanding pass crossing. The trek moves through Khati, Dwali, Base Camp, Advanced Base Camp, Camp 1, Camp 2, Traill’s Pass, Moren Camp, Rata Dantal, Martoli, Rilkot and Munsiyari before ending at Kathgodam. It is a serious Himalayan expedition for trekkers who want to push their physical and mental limits.

Itinerary

Day 1 Kathgodam to Khati
  • Start your expedition with a scenic drive from Kathgodam towards Khati Village.
  • The route passes through forested valleys, traditional Kumaoni villages and winding mountain roads.
  • Khati is the last inhabited village in the Pindari Valley and welcomes trekkers with traditional wooden houses and warm mountain hospitality.
  • Reach Khati by evening and settle into your stay.
  • Overnight stay will be in Khati.
Day 2 Khati to Dwali
  • Begin the trek from Khati towards Dwali.
  • The trail gradually ascends along the Pindar River and passes through rhododendron and oak forests.
  • You will cross wooden bridges, waterfalls and rugged mountain paths before reaching Dwali.
  • Dwali is a peaceful campsite located near the confluence of the Pindari and Kafni streams.
  • Overnight stay will be at Dwali.
Day 3 Dwali to Base Camp
  • Trek deeper into the high-altitude wilderness as the trail climbs towards Base Camp.
  • The forest line slowly begins to fade and opens into meadows, mountain views and snow-clad peaks.
  • The air becomes colder and thinner as the surrounding Himalayan giants come closer.
  • Reach Base Camp and settle in with beautiful views of glaciers and surrounding peaks.
  • Overnight stay will be at Base Camp.
Day 4 Acclimatization and Load Ferry to Advanced Base Camp
  • This day is reserved for acclimatization and load ferry to Advanced Base Camp.
  • The team carries essential supplies towards ABC to support the upcoming higher-altitude movement.
  • The trail includes rocky moraines and icy patches, giving the team an introduction to the challenges ahead.
  • Return to Base Camp after the load ferry.
  • Overnight stay will be at Base Camp.
Day 5 Base Camp to Advanced Base Camp
  • After breakfast, move from Base Camp to Advanced Base Camp.
  • The trail climbs through steep glacial moraines and rough high-altitude terrain.
  • As the altitude increases, acclimatization becomes very important.
  • Advanced Base Camp offers beautiful views of Nanda Devi and surrounding peaks.
  • Overnight stay will be at Advanced Base Camp.
Day 6 Load Ferry from Advanced Base Camp to Camp 1
  • This day is dedicated to load ferry from Advanced Base Camp to Camp 1.
  • The climb becomes more technical and involves movement across crevasses and icy ridges.
  • The purpose of this day is to shift equipment and supplies for the higher camps and make the next movement safer and smoother.
  • Return to Advanced Base Camp after completing the load ferry.
  • Overnight stay will be at Advanced Base Camp.
Day 7 Advanced Base Camp to Camp 1
  • After proper acclimatization, trek from Advanced Base Camp to Camp 1.
  • The altitude gain is significant and the terrain becomes more demanding.
  • This section tests stamina, patience and physical endurance.
  • Camp 1 offers dramatic views of glaciers and towering Himalayan peaks.
  • Overnight stay will be at Camp 1.
Day 8 Camp 1 to Camp 2
  • Trek from Camp 1 to Camp 2.
  • Although the distance is shorter, this section is technical and challenging.
  • The route involves icy walls, crevasses and the use of ropes and technical gear.
  • Camp 2 works as the final high-altitude base before attempting Traill’s Pass.

Day 9 Cross Traill’s Pass and Trek to Moren Camp
  • This is the most important and demanding day of the expedition.
  • Start early and begin the climb towards Traill’s Pass at 5,312 meters.
  • The ascent involves steep icy slopes, unpredictable weather and careful movement on technical terrain.
  • From the pass, trekkers can witness breathtaking views of Nanda Devi, Nanda Kot and surrounding Himalayan peaks.
  • After crossing the pass, descend carefully towards Moren Camp through icy and rocky sections.
  • Overnight stay will be at Moren Camp.
Day 10 Moren Camp to Rata Dantal
  • Leave the rugged glacial terrain behind and trek towards Rata Dantal.
  • The landscape slowly changes into alpine meadows, glacial lakes and open grasslands.
  • Rata Dantal is a peaceful high-altitude lake and works as a beautiful campsite after the demanding pass crossing.
  • Overnight stay will be at Rata Dantal.
Day 11 Rata Dantal to Martoli
  • Continue descending towards Martoli.
  • Martoli is a historic village known for its connection with old Indo-Tibetan trade routes.
  • The village is surrounded by wide Himalayan views and offers a cultural break after several days of remote expedition camping.
  • Overnight stay will be at Martoli.
Day 12 Martoli to Rilkot and Drive to Munsiyari
  • Trek from Martoli to Rilkot along the Gori Ganga River.
  • This is a relatively easier trekking day compared to the earlier technical sections.
  • The trail ends at Rilkot, from where you drive towards Munsiyari.
  • Munsiyari is a scenic Himalayan town known for beautiful views of the Panchachuli peaks.
  • Overnight stay will be in Munsiyari.
Day 13 Buffer Day in Munsiyari
  • This day is kept as a buffer in case of weather delays during the expedition.
  • If the trek runs as planned, you may explore Munsiyari and visit nearby attractions such as the Tribal Heritage Museum or Nanda Devi Temple.
  • You can also spend the day resting and enjoying mountain views.
  • Overnight stay will be in Munsiyari.
Day 14 Munsiyari to Kathgodam
  • After breakfast, start the return drive from Munsiyari to Kathgodam.
  • The route passes through winding roads, valleys and Himalayan villages.
  • Reach Kathgodam by evening with unforgettable memories of Traill’s Pass and the Kumaon Himalayas.
  • The expedition ends on arrival at Kathgodam.

  • 👉 Sky Hike reserves the right to modify the itinerary at any point, due to reasons including but not limited to Force Majeure events, strikes, fairs, festivals, weather conditions, traffic problems, cancellation, rescheduling, closure of /entry restrictions at a place of visit, etc. While we will do our best to make suitable alternate arrangements, we will not be held liable for any refunds/compensation claims arising out of this.
  • 👉 SkyHike is not liable for loss, injury, or damage to person or property caused due to natural calamities or accidents.
  • 👉Travelers/Trekkers must take full responsibility for their personal belongings.
  • 👉Travel Insurance is not included unless mentioned. Strongly recommended for high-risk destinations or international travel.
Payment & Confirmation Policies
  • 👉 100.0% of the total Trip/Trek cost will have to be paid 7 days before the Date of Travel.
  • 👉 Booking will be considered confirmed only after a minimum advance payment of 30% of the total package cost.
  • 👉 Once we receive your deposit, we'll send you a confirmation email with all the details, the Invoice & due amount, and the payment date.
  • 👉 Failure to make a timely payment may result in auto-cancellation without prior notice.
  • 👉 Valid ID proof (Aadhar card, passport, etc.) must be submitted at the time of booking.
  • 👉 For international trips, passport copies with a minimum of 6 months' validity and visa documents must be submitted as per deadlines.
  • 👉 Payments accepted via UPI, Net Banking, Credit/Debit Cards, or bank transfers.
  • 👉 Payments made via Credit/Debit Card may attract an additional payment gateway charge (as per the gateway's fee structure).
  • 👉 Cash payments (if any) must be acknowledged with an official receipt.
  • 👉 If you choose to book flight, train, or bus tickets through SkyHike’s team, Full payment is required to issue flight, train, or bus tickets.
  • 👉 Transport ticket prices are dynamic. Final fare will be as per the live rates visible on the booking portals at the time of processing. Any price difference from previous quotes will be chargeable.
Cancelation & Refund Policy
  • 👉 The advance amount is non-refundable.
  • 👉 The guest is eligible to request a refund only if the paid booking amount exceeds 30%.
  • 👉 If cancellation is made 30 days or more before the Date of Travel, 30% of the total Booking Cost will be charged as cancellation fees.
  • 👉 If cancellation is made between 29 days to 16 days before the date of travel, 50% of the total Booking Cost will be charged as cancellation fees.
  • 👉 If cancellation is made between 7 days to 15 days before the date of travel, 80% of the total Booking Cost will be charged as cancellation fees.
  • 👉 If cancellation is made within 7 days before the date of travel, the total booking cost will be charged as cancellation fees.
    Last-minute No-Show: 100% cancellation charges applicable. No reschedule. No refund.
  • 👉 If payment is not made as per the schedule provided in the first booking confirmation Email, Sky Hike reserves the right to cancel the booking after attempting to get in touch with you. Refunds will be issued as per the package cancellation policy.
  • 👉 Transfer your Trek/Trip (any Trek/Trip, within 2 months of your Date of Travel) to your friend before 15 days of your Date of Travel. However, your friend will be eligible for the transfer only if they have not booked any trip/trek with us and have yet to travel.
  • 👉 You can only transfer your Trip or Trek to those friends or People who haven’t booked any trip with us in a given time period.
  • 👉 80% cash voucher in the form of 'HikeCoin' for any other Trip/Trek for one year, if we are informed before 20 days of the date of travel. (1 Rupees = 10 HikeCoin)
  • 👉 90% cash voucher in the form of 'HikeCoin' for the same Trip/Trek for one year. If we are informed 20 days before the date of travel, (1 Rupee = 10 HikeCoin)
  • 👉 The applicable refund amount will be processed within 10 business days.
  • 👉 The company is not liable for compensation beyond the tour cost.
  • 👉 Non-Refundable Items: Flight/train/bus tickets once issued are non-refundable.
  • 👉 Permit fees, forest entry charges, or third-party service charges are non-refundable.
  • 👉 Flight/train/bus tickets once issued are non-refundable unless the carrier’s official policy allows cancellation with a refund.
  • 👉 Flight/train/bus tickets applicable refunds will be processed as per the terms of that organization or Booking Portal, and service charges (if any) will be deducted.
  • 👉 No refund will be made for partially utilized services like early check-out, skipped meals, missed sightseeing, or transport.
  • 👉 If sightseeing tickets have been pre-booked, refund eligibility will depend on the official cancellation policy of the issuing authority or managing organization of that specific attraction.
Child Policy
  • 👉 We recommend avoiding going on adventure trips with young children below the age of 7 years, including Dham Yatra. The Dham Yatra has a demanding itinerary that can be challenging for young children.
  • 👉 Children under 5 years old are free of charge. However, please note that this typically applies to one child per paying couple. Additional children under 5 Y/O may require a separate seat or pay a discounted fare.
  • 👉 Children between 6 and 12 years old will be charged 70% of the adult travel cost (per person).
  • 👉 Children 12 years and older will be charged the full adult travel cost.
  • 👉 Please be sure to provide the accurate age of all traveling children at the time of booking.
  • 👉 Documentation proving a child's age may be required during check-in (e.g., birth certificate, Adhar Card/Passport).
