Trek Highlights

A 9 day Himalayan adventure combining scenic road journeys and moderate trekking. Expect river side trails, remote campsites, glacier exploration, and wide Himalayan views including Nanda Devi East and Panchachuli peaks.

Suitable for trekkers with basic fitness and good stamina who want a high altitude base camp experience without extremely technical climbing.

Itinerary

Day 1 DAY 01 | Kathgodam → Munsiyari

Distance: ~280 km | Travel Time: 10–12 hrs

Your journey begins from Kathgodam with a shared vehicle pickup around early morning. The drive to Munsiyari covers approximately 280 km and usually takes 10 to 12 hours through winding mountain roads.

You will pass through Almora and Thal, with changing landscapes from forests to open valleys. As you approach Munsiyari, the Panchachuli peaks begin to appear in the distance.

On arrival at 7,200 ft, check in at the hotel arranged by the SkyHike team. Rest for the night and prepare for the upcoming days.

Overnight stay in Munsiyari.

Day 2 DAY 02 | Munsiyari → Rilkot

Distance: ~50 km | Travel Time: 4–5 hrs

After breakfast, drive deeper into the mountains towards Rilkot, covering around 50 km in 4 to 5 hours.

The road passes through small villages like Lilam and Martoli, offering glimpses of traditional Himalayan life. Rilkot, located along the Gori Ganga River at about 10,500 ft, is the last motorable point.

Once you reach Rilkot, prepare for the trek starting the next morning.

Overnight stay in tents.

Day 3 DAY 03 | Rilkot → Panchhu / Ganghar

Trek Distance: ~13 km | Trek Duration: 6–7 hrs | Altitude: ~11,800 ft

Today your trek officially begins today after a hearty breakfast. You will walk approximately 13 km along a well defined trail following the river.

The gradual ascent takes you through alpine meadows and sections of sparse forest. The climb is steady but manageable with regular breaks.

By late afternoon, reach Panchhu or Ganghar campsite. The setting is open and scenic, surrounded by high peaks.

Overnight stay in tents. At night, we will end the day with an amazing dinner.

Day 4 DAY 04 | Panchhu / Ganghar → Nanda Devi East Base Camp

Trek Distance: ~7 km | Trek Duration: 4–5 hrs | Altitude: 4,750 m

This is one of the most important days of the trek. The 7 km trail includes approximately 4 km of ascent and 3 km of descent through rocky terrain and moraines.

We will start our day with breakfast and then start the trek.

As you approach base camp, Nanda Devi East rises dramatically in front of you. The altitude reaches 4,750 meters, so the pace remains slow and steady.

Spend time at base camp absorbing the views before settling into camp for the night.

Overnight stay along with dinner in tents at base camp.

Day 5 DAY 05 | Base Camp → Glacier Region → Panchhu / Ganghar

Trek Distance: ~13 km | Trek Duration: 6–7 hrs

In the morning, have breakfast and then we will take a short 3 km hike towards the glacier region near base camp. The terrain here includes glacial streams and wide open high altitude meadows.

After returning to base camp for lunch, begin your 7 km descent back to Panchhu / Ganghar.

The descent is easier but still requires attention on rocky sections.

After dinner, the overnight stay is in the tents.

Day 6 DAY 06 | Panchhu / Ganghar → Rilkot

Trek Distance: ~13 km | Trek Duration: 5–6 hrs

Today you retrace the same 13 km trail back to Rilkot. Since most of the route is gradual descent, it feels more comfortable compared to the ascent.

You will again cross streams and walk along the Gori Ganga valley before reaching the road head.

Overnight stay in Rilkot.

Day 7 DAY 07 | Rilkot → Munsiyari

Distance: ~50 km | Travel Time: 4–5 hrs

After breakfast, drive back to Munsiyari, covering approximately 50 km in around 4 to 5 hours.

Once back at the hotel, you can relax and enjoy a hot shower. The rest of the day is free for rest.

Overnight stay in Munsiyari.

Day 8 DAY 08 | Buffer Day – Explore Munsiyari / Khaliya Top

Optional Hike: ~6 km (one way)

This day is kept as a buffer in case of weather delays during the trek. If unused, you can explore Munsiyari.

A popular option is a hike to Khaliya Top at about 11,500 ft, which offers wide views of the Panchachuli peaks. Alternatively, you may visit Birthi Waterfall or the Tribal Museum.

Overnight stay in Munsiyari.

Day 9 DAY 09 | Munsiyari → Kathgodam

Distance: ~280 km | Travel Time: 10–12 hrs

After breakfast, begin your return drive to Kathgodam, covering around 280 km in approximately 10 to 12 hours.

By evening, you will reach Kathgodam, marking the end of your Himalayan journey.

Every transport, campsite setup, permit arrangement, and ground support is coordinated by the SkyHike team so you can focus on trekking and enjoying the mountains.

We truly look forward to hosting you on this high-altitude Himalayan adventure.
