This 4 day Himalayan journey takes you from Dehradun to Auli and further towards the remote Niti Valley near the Indo Tibet border. The route follows the Alaknanda River through the Panch Prayag confluences before reaching snow covered slopes in Auli. One full day is dedicated to the Niti Valley and Timmersain Mahadev Temple, which is often referred to as Chota Amarnath of Uttarakhand.
All transfers from Day 1 to Day 4 are arranged by Swift Dzire, and for the Niti Valley sector a 4×4 vehicle is used as required. Permits, hotel stay, driver coordination, and route planning are handled by the SkyHike team for a smooth experience.
Distance: ~300 km
Travel Time: 10–11 hours
Your journey begins with morning pickup from Dehradun Airport by the SkyHike driver. After a brief introduction, you begin the long yet scenic drive towards Auli.
The first major stop is Devprayag, approximately 75 km from Dehradun. Here you will witness the confluence of the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers forming the Ganga. The viewpoint offers a clear perspective of the two differently colored rivers meeting.
Continuing ahead, you pass Dhari Devi Temple located along the riverbanks. The drive then proceeds to Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag, and Nandaprayag, each marking a sacred confluence in the Panch Prayag sequence. These stops break the long journey and provide scenic river valley views.
As the road climbs higher towards Joshimath and Auli, the terrain becomes more mountainous. In February, patches of snow may appear near Auli.
By evening, reach Auli and check into your hotel. After the long drive, dinner is served at the hotel and the evening is kept relaxed.
Overnight stay in Auli.
Meals: Dinner
Distance: ~180 km (round trip)
Travel Time: Full day excursion
After early breakfast, you depart for Niti Valley in a 4×4 vehicle arranged specifically for this sector due to rough terrain and high altitude roads.
The drive from Auli first passes Dronagiri Parvat View Point, around 40 km away. The mountain holds mythological significance and offers clear high altitude views.
You then pass through Malari, Bampa, and Gamshali villages. These are remote border villages where traditional stone houses and quiet surroundings reflect a different lifestyle from the plains.
From Gamshali, you begin a short trek towards Timmersain Mahadev Temple. The trail is manageable but may have snow in February. The temple cave houses a naturally formed ice Shiva lingam during winter months, which gives it the name Chota Amarnath.
After darshan and some time at the site, you descend back to Gamshali and begin the return drive to Auli.
Due to the remote nature of the valley, timing is important, and the return journey continues steadily to reach Auli by evening.

Local Travel: Short distance within Auli
Trek: ~3 km (Gorson Bugyal, optional)
After breakfast, the day is dedicated to exploring Auli and nearby areas.
You may take a ropeway ride or opt for a short trek towards Gorson Bugyal, approximately 3 km away. The meadow offers wide views of Himalayan peaks including Nanda Devi and other snow covered ranges.
The open slopes of Auli are known for skiing during winter. Depending on snow conditions, you can spend time walking on the slopes, enjoying photography, or participating in snow activities at additional cost.
Several viewpoints around Auli provide clear views of the surrounding mountains, especially on sunny winter days when the sky is clear.
The afternoon is kept flexible so you can enjoy the peaceful environment without rushing.
