Trek Highlights

Five days is all you need to reach Madhyamaheshwar, the third of the Panch Kedar shrines, and watch beautiful Chaukhamba and Kedarnath peaks.

The trip begins in Haridwar with a road ride past Devprayag and Rudraprayag to the small hill town of Ukhimath. From there a forest drive drops you at Ransi, the trailhead. You will hike through oak and cedar, pause at Gaundar’s waterfall, stay with local families in Nanu, then finish the steady climb to the 1 200-year-old stone temple.

An extra hour of trekking takes you to Budha Madhyamaheshwar for the widest mountain view of the trek. After a night in a simple lodge you retrace the path to Ransi and drive back to Ukhimath, wrapping up with a quiet run down the Mandakini valley to Haridwar.

The package covers all road transport, permits, homestays and lodges, plus vegetarian breakfasts and dinners. Bring basic fitness, warm layers and a photo ID, and leave the planning to us.

Itinerary

Day 1 From Haridwar to Ukhimath drive (200 km, 8 hr)
  • Meet our cheerful SkyHike guide in Haridwar for a quick chat, safety talk, and gear check.
  • Climb into the waiting tempo traveller and roll out of town, crossing the shining Ganga and skirting the yoga streets of Rishikesh.
  • Pause at Devprayag for steaming breakfast and a view of the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda rivers meeting to form the mighty Ganga.
  • Walk a few steps to the water’s edge, feel the cool spray, and snap photos of bright temples clinging to the cliffs.
  • Continue to Dhari Devi Temple.
  • Push on to Rudraprayag and settle at a roadside dhaba for hot lunch that fuels the next leg of the ride.
  • Leave the broad valley behind as the road climbs through thick pine and oak forest toward the hill town of Ukhimath.
  • Reach Ukhimath by late afternoon and check into a simple stay that provides clean rooms, hot water, and warm blankets.
  • Before dusk, stroll to the seventh-century Omkareshwar Temple, its stone walls glowing in the soft evening light and bells ringing in the calm air.
  • Return to the stay for a hearty vegetarian meal served steaming from the kitchen and shared around a long table.
  • Turn in early so everyone wakes rested and eager for tomorrow’s first steps on the trail.
Day 2 From Ukhimath to Ransi, and Then to Nanu (30 km drive + 11 km trek, 6–7 hr on trail)
  • Breakfast will be ready in the morning.

  • Then we'll hop into the vehicle and start our 30 km drive that will carry you past dense oak forest to Ransi.

  • After a quick warm-up stretch we will register at the forest check-post, and start walking.

  • The first 3 km will descend on a path to Gaundar village, crossing a bridge just below a photogenic waterfall.

  • From Gaundar the path will steepen; the climb will get a mix of cedar–oak trees.

  • En-route you will break for a packed lunch.

  • By mid-afternoon you will step into Nanu, a place that has stone houses.

  • Accommodation will be in a homestay with basic amenities available.

  • Evening tea will be followed by a short acclimatisation walk to a prayer flag point above the village.

  • Dinner of veg thali will be served, after which the guide will brief you on the next day’s ascent.

Day 3 From Nanu to Madhyamaheshwar shrine and then to Budha Madhyamaheshwar ridge (8 km trek up + 1.5 km side walk, 5–6 hr)
  • Morning will start with a gentle wake-up call that drifts through the cool mountain air.
  • A quick but hearty breakfastwill prepare you for the steady eight-kilometre trek that rises about one thousand one hundred metres.
  • The path passes through quiet oak groves, bright bamboo patches, and small roadside shrines.
  • Several marked rest spots appear just when we need a pause and each one offers clear spring taps where bottles can be topped up with cold water.
  • By early afternoon the first slate roofs of Madhyamaheshwar village slide into view.
  • You will join the line for darshan while your guide shares the age-old story of the Panch Kedar shrines and the journey of the Pandava brothers.
  • A steaming lunch follows, served simple and fresh to revive tired muscles.
  • With energy restored the group sets off on the gentle one and a half kilometre walk to Budha Madhyamaheshwar, a quiet meadow above the main shrine.
  • From this high view spot the whole wall of Chaukhamba, Mandani, and Kedarnath peaks opens up like a huge painting against the sky.
  • Return to the village in fading light, take part in the soothing evening aarti, and sit down to a warm supper cooked on wood stoves.
  • Sleep comes easy in the clean stay rooms, blankets pulled up and tomorrow’s journey.
Day 4 From Madhyamaheshwar to Ransi to Ukhimath (18 km trek down + 30 km drive, 7–8 hr)
  • Rise before sunrise and join the gentle dawn aarti if you wish.
  • Enjoy a warm breakfast that gives you steady energy.
  • Begin the downhill walk in the cool morning air, following the same trail you climbed over the last two days.
  • Reach Ransi by late afternoon, legs humming yet happy from the long walk.
  • Climb into the vehicle and head for Chopta, a small alpine bend often called the mini Switzerland of India.
  • Soak in wide views of rolling meadows and snowy peaks peeking between tall deodar trees.
  • Pause here for an early dinner of simple veg thaali served in a bright roadside dhabas.
  • After the meal continue by road to Ukhimath where cozy rooms are ready.
  • Check into the stay, treat yourself to a hot shower, and unpack in quiet comfort.
  • Settle under thick blankets and drift to sleep so body and mind stay fresh for the next part of the journey.
Day 5 From Ukhimath to Haridwar return (200 km, 7–8 hr)
  • Wake up to a last mountain sunrise and enjoy a relaxed breakfast before you check out of the stay.
  • Bags are loaded, seats found, and the vehicle rolls down the green Mandakini valley, giving one more look at the shining river dancing over stones.
  • Around midday we pull into a friendly roadside dhaba for lunch.
  • By late afternoon we reach Haridwar railway station, and a little later Jolly Grant airport for those catching flights, making sure every bag and person is set for the journey ahead.
  • We really look forward to make new memories with you. See you soon!
