  • This 6 km trek will take around 3 to 5 hours and is moderately difficult, involving a steady ascent.

  • As we ascend, the landscape transforms into high-altitude terrain, and at 3963 meters, the breathtaking beauty of Panwali Bugyal awaits us.

  • Panwali Bugyal, a high-altitude meadow, is one of the lesser-explored gems of the Northern Garhwal Himalayas.

  • The panoramic views from here are nothing short of mesmerizing, making every step of the trek worth the effort.

  • The landscape is particularly spectacular as it offers a 360-degree view of several prominent peaks such as Kedar, Gangotri, Yamunotri, and Badrinath.

  • You will be able to spot peaks like Kedar Dome, Thalaysagar, Kirti Stambh, Chaukhambha, Meru, and Nilkanth in the distance.

  • During spring, the meadows are adorned with colorful flowers like poppies, daisies, primulas, and rhododendrons, creating a vibrant, almost surreal visual spectacle.

  • The region is also known for its biodiversity, and trekkers may encounter rare wildlife such as musk deer, Bharal (Himalayan blue sheep), bears, weasels, and Ghoral.

  • Panwali Bugyal is also famous for its stunning sunsets, which bathe the entire area in a golden hue.

  • For those trekking during the winter months, the meadows and peaks are blanketed in a thick layer of snow, offering a completely different, equally mesmerizing view.

  • After trekking for about 3 to 4 hours, we start to encounter plantations and remote Garhwali villages.

  • The area's scenic beauty begins to unfold as we pass through terraced fields of potatoes, rajma, and other local grains.

  • During early summer, these fields are adorned with vibrant, fragrant flowers, creating a picturesque landscape.

  • As we continue along the village canals and water channels, we feel the serenity of the surroundings.

  • After a short climb, we reach Gangi village, a peaceful and timeless place where life moves at its own pace.

  • Gangi will be our resting point for the next two nights.

  • Here, we will stay in a homestay, offering a comfortable and cozy environment to relax after the day’s trek.

  • Then we'll have a cozy dinner and head back to sleep.
Day 6 Gangi (Day for rest and leisure)
  • After the demanding treks of the past few days, today is a day to rest and rejuvenate.

  • It is essential to recover your energy for the more challenging trekking days ahead.

  • Gangi is a remote village, untouched by modern developments, providing the perfect setting for relaxation.

  • The village is home to age-old wooden temples that stand proudly under towering snow-capped mountains.

  • Spend the day leisurely exploring Gangi.

  • You can converse with the elderly villagers, who have a wealth of stories to share about the history, culture, and traditions of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand.

  • Alternatively, enjoy the natural beauty of the village’s outskirts, where you may spot vibrant sunbirds and playful magpies.

  • This day allows you to fully embrace the calm, simple life of the mountains, take photos, or simply sit back and enjoy the surroundings.

Day 7 Trek from Gangi to Biroda to Kharsali (Trek: 11 Kms; 6-7 hrs)

  • You may have the opportunity to spot some of these rare birds, including the vibrant Himalayan Monal, Warbler, Coppersmith Barbet, Blue Magpie, and various species of Parakeets.

  • The sound of the gurgling Kalyani stream signals the proximity of our destination.

  • This is a good spot to refill water bottles and enjoy a brief rest by the stream’s refreshing waters.

  • After crossing the stream, we reach a diversion point.

  • The trail to the left leads to Sahastra Tal, an isolated lake known for its tranquil beauty.

  • If time permits, we will take a quick detour to visit this lake. Otherwise, we continue along the right trail.

  • As the forest begins to thin, we approach Biroda Bugyal, a vast meadow framed by rolling hills and evergreen conifers.

  • Our campsite for the night lies about 3-4 kilometers beyond Biroda Bugyal.

  • Set up your camp and take in the unmatched beauty of the surroundings.

  • In the evening, enjoy the mesmerizing colors of the sunset as they light up the meadows.

  • As night falls, rest in the peaceful environment, listening to the sounds of rustling leaves, and prepare for the next day’s adventures.

Day 8 From Kharsali to TambaKund (Trek: 8 Kms; 7-9 hrs)
  • After a hearty breakfast, we begin our hike along the trail that extends beyond Kharsali village.

  • The initial part of the trek is relatively flat. It follows the river bank and passes through rolling meadows, offering a peaceful and easy start to the day.

  • As we move forward, the terrain becomes more challenging as we start to ascend toward a barren mountain patch that lacks vegetation.

  • Along the way, the majestic snow-capped mountains remain in view. Small, snow-fed streams cross our path, adding to the charm of the surroundings.

  • The distant waterfalls tumbling down the Bhilangana Range provide a scenic addition to the journey.

  • After a moderately difficult 8-hour trek, we reach our destination for the day i.e TambaKunda.

  • This serene spot, which is a small pond, is considered the source of the Bhilangana River.

  • The Khatling Glacier, which feeds the Bhilangana River, is just 3 kilometers away from our campsite.

  • We will have the opportunity to visit it during the next stages of the trek.

  • In the evening, unwind and relish a warm dinner, served at the campsite.

  • This peaceful setting, with clear skies and the stars above, offers an ideal place to rest and reflect on the day's journey.

Day 9 Trek from Tamba Kund to Khatling to Tambakund (Trek: 3 Kms 4-5 hrs)
  • After breakfast, we begin our trek towards Khatling Glacier, located at an altitude of 3415 meters.

  • This is the birthplace of the Bhilangana River, which nourishes the settlements in the Northern Garhwal region.

  • Khatling Glacier is one of the largest glaciers in the Himalayas, and today, we will go on a mildly strenuous trek to reach it.

  • The trail from Tamba Kund begins with a crossing over a wooden bridge that spans the river.

  • From here, the path leads through the grassy meadows of Chowki, an area frequented by local shepherds who bring their flocks of sheep to graze.

  • As we move along, the valley is adorned with various flowering plants, including the Brahma Kamal during its blooming season.

  • The trail continues towards the glacier, and though it could take two or more days to fully explore Khatling Glacier, our aim today is to reach the ‘Zero Point,’ which is a stunning viewpoint in the heart of the glacier.

  • After taking in the mesmerizing views of the glacier, we will begin our return trek to Tamba Kund. The total trek for the day is about 3 kilometers and will take approximately 4 to 5 hours.

  • For today’s trek, you will only carry the essentials, as we will not be taking all of our luggage.

  • This ensures a more relaxed climb to the glacier.

  • We will return to Tamba Kund for the night, where we will have a warm dinner and spend the night under the stars, resting and reflecting on the day's experience.

Day 10 Trek from Tambakund to Masar Tal (Trek: 7 Kms; 9 hrs)
  • We begin today’s trek early in the morning, so be sure to have a hearty breakfast to fuel up for the steep ascent ahead.

  • The trek starts from Tambakund, and we make our way towards Chowki, where the climb begins in earnest.

  • The trail is demanding, and the climb continues throughout the day.

  • After a break for lunch, the view opens up, offering a glimpse of the Khatling Glacier and the milky-white waters of the Doodhganga River far below.

  • As we climb higher, we can also spot the shimmering waters of Bhimtal Lake.

  • The day's destination is Masar Tal, a small but beautiful lake situated at an altitude of 3675 meters.

  • This serene lake is surrounded by the towering mountains of the Kedar Range.

  • The meadows surrounding the lake are often carpeted in green, and during the monsoon, the area comes alive with wildflowers in full bloom.

  • If the weather permits, this is also a prime spot for photography.

  • The clear skies on a good night offer the perfect opportunity for star-trail photography or even catching a glimpse of the Milky Way.

  • After a long but rewarding day, we will set up camp near Masar Tal and unwind with a delicious dinner as we prepare for a restful night under the stars.

Day 11 Trek from Masartal to Masar-top to Vasukital via Mayali Pass (Trek: 14 km, 12 hrs )
  • We begin our trek early in the morning, preparing ourselves for the challenging climb ahead.

  • The weather is cold, and the climb to Mayali Pass, which is about 17,800 feet high, is strenuous.

  • The first stop will be Masar Tal, a high-altitude lake that offers several spots for camping.

  • The climb towards Masar Top is a tough one, particularly on the left side of the lake.

  • This section is steep, with a gradient of about 65 degrees, and is considered the most difficult part of the trek.

  • The path is littered with stones and patches of ice, making each step a challenge.

  • The combination of physical exertion and mental focus is necessary to make progress, and it requires determination and strength to reach the top.

  • After reaching Masar Top, we will take some time to rest and enjoy the panoramic views of the surrounding peaks.

  • From this vantage point, you can see magnificent mountains such as Mt. Thalaysagar, Bhartekuntha, and Kedardome, each standing tall in their grandeur.

  • After spending some time at Masar Top, we will continue our journey and cross the Mayali Glacier.

  • The descent from the top is steep, but it eventually leads us toward Vasuki Tal, the campsite for the day.

  • Upon reaching Vasuki Tal, we will set up camp for the night.

Day 12 Trek from Vasuki Tal to Kedarnath (Trek: 6 Kms, 4-6 hrs)
  • Today’s journey begins with a descent from Vasuki Tal towards Kedarnath, covering approximately 6 kilometers.

  • While it’s a downhill trek, it brings its own set of challenges. We'll begin our trekking after having a hearty breakfast.

  • Leaving behind the pristine beauty of Vasuki Lake, you will face the adventure of crossing two glaciers: Chaturangi Glacier and Vasuki Glacier.

  • The trail through these glaciers is narrow and requires careful navigation, as one misstep can lead to injury.

  • It’s crucial to maintain focus and listen to the guide's instructions.

  • Upon completing the trek, you will reach the holy town of Kedarnath.

  • After checking into the homestay and freshening up, you will have the opportunity to visit the Kedarnath Temple.

  • This ancient temple, located at an altitude of 3,584 meters, is a revered Jyotirlinga and is considered one of the holiest sites in India.

  • It is believed to have been built by the Pandavas, as part of the Panch Kedar Legend.

  • According to the legend, the Pandavas sought Lord Shiva’s blessings after the Mahabharata war and, after much perseverance, found him in the form of a bull at Kedarnath.

  • The temple is dedicated to this form of Shiva.

  • In the evening, do not miss the mesmerizing sunset at Kedarnath, when the Kedar Dome is bathed in saffron and pink hues as the sun sets behind the mountains.

  • The peaceful atmosphere, accompanied by the sound of temple bells, creates a meditative and serene experience.

  • Enjoy the comfort of Skyhike's homestay near Kedarnath.

  • Dinner will be served at the accommodation to ensure you’re well-rested for the journey ahead.

Day 13 Trek from Kedarnath to Gaurikund to Rudraprayag (Trek: 14 Kms, 7 hrs)
  • Wake up early this morning to witness the breathtaking views of Kedarnath Peak, Sumeru, and Kedar Dome.

  • The sight of these majestic mountains, bathed in the early morning light, is truly divine.

  • The peaceful atmosphere and the spiritual energy around the Kedarnath Temple make it one of the most revered pilgrimage spots in Uttarakhand.

  • After a hearty breakfast, begin the trek downhill.

  • Follow the path along the Mandakini River, which flows on your right throughout the descent.

  • The valley, carved by the Mandakini River, is dotted with several waterfalls, and you may even witness flocks of birds bathing in the streams.

  • After a few hours of descent, you will reach the base at Gaurikund, the starting point of the trek to Kedarnath.

  • Here, you will board a vehicle for the return journey.

  • The motorable road from Gaurikund, passing through Guptkashi, leads you to Rudraprayag.

  • Rudraprayag is one of the five Panch Prayags and holds significant mythological importance.

  • The town is named after Lord Shiva's Rudra form, who is believed to have performed the Tandav dance here.

  • The region is rich in legends, and it was once home to wild tigers from the Kedar and Tungnath forests.
