Package Highlights

Baljuri Peak Summit Expedition is a challenging high-altitude expedition in the Kumaon Himalayas, designed for experienced trekkers who want to step into the world of mountaineering. The expedition takes you to Baljuri Peak at 5,922 meters, where the reward is a powerful summit experience with breathtaking 360-degree Himalayan views.

The journey begins from Kathgodam with a scenic drive to Khati Village, the last inhabited village before the wilderness begins. Over the expedition, trekkers move through dense forests, icy streams, snow-covered slopes and high-altitude terrain that test endurance, patience and determination.

This expedition includes trekking through Khati Village, Dwali, Baljuri Base Camp, Advanced Base Camp and Summit Camp before attempting the final summit push. It is a true test of stamina, technical learning and mental strength, making it ideal for trekkers who are ready for their next serious Himalayan challenge.

Itinerary

Day 1 Kathgodam to Khati Village
  • Your journey starts early in the morning from Kathgodam.
  • Drive towards Khati Village in a shared Bolero or similar vehicle.
  • The route passes through Almora, Bageshwar and Kapkot before reaching Khati Village.
  • Khati is the last inhabited village on this route and works as the starting point for the mountain journey ahead.
  • On arrival, meet your expedition leader and attend a briefing session about the route, terrain, safety measures and upcoming challenges.
  • Overnight stay will be in a local homestay at Khati Village.
Day 2 Khati Village to Dwali
  • After breakfast, begin the trek from Khati Village to Dwali.
  • The trail includes gradual ascents and descents through dense forests of rhododendron and oak.
  • You will cross wooden bridges, streams and green valleys while walking along the Pindari River.
  • A packed lunch will be provided on the way.
  • By evening, reach Dwali and settle into the campsite.
  • Overnight stay will be in tents at Dwali.
Day 3 Dwali to Baljuri Base Camp
  • After breakfast, start trekking towards Baljuri Base Camp.
  • The trail is shorter but more challenging, with steep climbing sections.
  • You will cross Phurkiya, which is the last shelter point before the base camp.
  • The final section includes a steep ascent followed by a steady climb towards the base camp.
  • On arrival, set up camps near the glacier and enjoy views of the surrounding peaks.
  • Overnight stay will be at Baljuri Base Camp
Day 4 Acclimatization and Training at Base Camp
  • This day is kept for acclimatization and technical preparation.
  • The expedition team will conduct training sessions on rope usage, ice axe handling, crampons and basic mountaineering techniques.
  • Short practice climbs may be conducted to prepare trekkers for higher sections.
  • Spend the rest of the day resting, hydrating and preparing your gear for the climb ahead.
  • Overnight stay will be at Base Camp
Day 5 Base Camp to Advanced Base Camp
  • After breakfast, begin the move towards Advanced Base Camp.
  • This day includes carrying essential gear, food and climbing equipment required for the upper sections.
  • The route includes rocky terrain and glacier patches.
  • Crampons and rope support may be required in technical sections.

  • Overnight stay will be at Advanced Base Camp.
Day 7 Advanced Base Camp to Summit Camp
  • After breakfast, move from Advanced Base Camp to Summit Camp.

Day 8 Summit Attempt and Return to Advanced Base Camp
  • The most important day of the expedition begins around 2:00 AM.
  • Start the climb towards Baljuri Peak summit at 5,922 meters.
  • The climb is steep and technical, requiring ice axes, fixed ropes and strong endurance.
  • After several hours of climbing, reach the summit and witness panoramic views of the Himalayas, including Nanda Devi, Nanda Kot and Maiktoli peaks.
  • After spending time at the summit, descend safely to Advanced Base Camp.
  • Overnight stay will be at Advanced Base Camp
Day 9 Advanced Base Camp to Dwali
  • After breakfast, pack up the campsite and begin descending towards Dwali.
  • The trail retraces earlier sections and passes through glacier moraine, rocky ridges and forested trails.
  • This is a long descent but comparatively easier after the summit attempt.
  • Reach Dwali by evening and rest at the campsite.
  • Overnight stay will be in tents at Dwali.
Day 10 Dwali to Khati Village
  • After breakfast, trek back from Dwali to Khati Village.

Know Before You Go
  • Baljuri Peak is a challenging high-altitude expedition, not a beginner trek. It is best suited for experienced trekkers who are ready to move towards technical mountaineering.
  • Participants should have prior trekking experience, preferably at least one trek above 4,000 meters. You should be physically fit enough to walk 6 to 8 hours a day while carrying a backpack.
  • This expedition involves long walking hours, steep climbs, cold weather, strong winds and difficult terrain, so proper training and preparation are necessary before joining.
  • Start preparing at least 2 to 3 months before the expedition. Focus on stamina, strength and endurance through running, cycling, swimming, stair climbing, strength training and practice hikes with a backpack.
  • Baljuri Peak reaches an altitude of 5,922 meters, so altitude sickness can be a serious concern. Stay hydrated, avoid alcohol and smoking, understand altitude sickness symptoms and take acclimatization seriously.
  • A medical check-up is recommended before the expedition. Carry a personal medical kit and consult your doctor before taking altitude sickness medicine such as Diamox.
  • The expedition includes technical sections where ropes, ice axes, crampons and other mountaineering gear may be used. Training and safety instructions given by the expedition team must be followed properly.
  • Weather conditions, snow conditions, health concerns or safety risks may affect the itinerary and summit attempt. Extra costs caused by bad weather, roadblocks, health emergencies or unexpected situations are not included in the package.
  • Travel insurance and high-altitude insurance are not included in the package and should be arranged separately by the participant.
  • Carry proper layered clothing, waterproof outerwear, trekking boots, gloves, headgear, trekking poles, headlamp, sunglasses, sunscreen, water bottles, energy snacks, personal medicines and required ID proof.
  • Keep your backpack light and practical. The PDF recommends aiming for a backpack weight of around 10 to 12 kg maximum.
  • Luggage offloading is optional and chargeable. If you do not want to carry your personal backpack till Base Camp, porter support can be arranged separately with a maximum weight limit of 8 kg per bag.
